By perilous landing on a war-torn island, Brodie Torrance protects his passengers from a lightning strike, only to discover that surviving the landing was just the beginning. When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare, an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. In order to rescue the passengers, Torrance will need Gaspare's help, and will learn there's more to Gaspare than meets the eye.
Review
Well-paced action that is fun!
Some films are just for plain entertainment. There's no reason to try to change who they are. Since this film proudly displays its identity, errors can be overlooked. The audience is informed that they are in for a good time by the errors and the straightforward filmmaking. Not too seriously, please.
Even though the movie follows a well-worn path, it yet feels new. The plot does a good job at keeping the viewer generally in the loop. In general, you know what to expect, but the plot aspects that lead to the climax are handled skillfully by not getting into too much detail. There is no denying that this movie was inspired by the actual missing flight MH370 (it even name drops the missing plane in the movie). The plot of the film is propelled by the plane itself, which lends credence to the film's straightforward title, Plane. The most original element of the film is our pilot hero. Although he is physically capable of performing what he does, he also has a greater degree of vulnerability than other action heroes.
The action moves quickly and is simple to follow. Surprisingly, the film does have some heart at the end, which is aided by some excellent performances. If you can overlook the mistakes and shoddy plot, you can anticipate having a great time with this. It's worth seeing in a theatre, or at the very least, watching with some buddies!
